Music Advisory Councils

Music IS Cultural Diplomacy at its finest - opening doors and forging relationships in ways recognized by all, as evidenced by the cultural phenomenon of the "British Invasion" of pop and rock music in the 1960s, the expanded appeal of opera with the Three Tenors, or the universal spread of sound from Motown and Country, to Folk Music and Rap. New sounds, the discovery of ancient songs, the introduction of new arrangements or unusual instruments to familiar tunes creates excitement and unites people. A vigorous exchange of music opportunities between Greece and the US remains a major goal for HICD-USA.
Nashville soprano Tyler Samuel performs the 19th century Negro spiritual "There is a Balm in Gilead" at the Parthenon as the conclusion to Part 2 of HICD-USA's 1821-2021 Bicentennial of the Greek War of Independence. The segment focused on Greek immigrant support for the Abolition of Slavery in America.
